Celebrating Kristin & Mark

Just East of San Francisco, their wedding took place on a warm June 15th. Everything went as planned, there are not many weddings we’ve witnessed that could say the same.

Their San Francisco engagement photoshoot had just as much luck with weather, we drove from Seattle to SF & were surprised to have a beautiful sunset at the Golden Gate Bridge. It was the first time we’ve ever seen it without fog.

Mystical Creature Found in La Jolla

While in CA we enjoyed many days working at the ocean. One day was different than the rest, you could feel the magic in the air as we walked closer to the stairs leading us to the misty La Jolla beach. With one foot at the top of the steps we were distracted by a cute little squirrel, no ordinary squirrel though. He called himself Jerry, and warned us of the sight we might see. We were excited for an adventure at the beach, grabbed hold of our cameras and headed to the rocks where Jerry said our fate awaited.

The ocean water was sparkling abnormally bright when we heard a quaint voice murmur from behind a rock “Over here, I think you’er looking for me”. We shuffled our feet closer hauling our lighting equipment, when a head popped out from behind the rock. Indeed she is exactly who and what we were looking for.

To the average eye she may have just been a gorgeous beach beauty, but we knew that there was something extra special about her. As we rounded the rock we could see her sparkling fins transforming into feet, developed enough to stand but not ready to walk. It didn’t take long for us to start photographing the beautiful mermaid named “Remele Sparks”.

She told us her story, which in short was that she was separated from her pod of mermaids and had landed ashore. Just touching the beach started her transformation into a human. We photographed her calling out to her fellow mermaids, sadly with no response.

She offered us some delicacies of her mer-people, knowing that we hadn’t eaten dinner yet. Although the gesture was sweet we declined and she happily got to have the entire strand of seaweed for herself.

As the sun began to set it was obvious she needed to find a way back out to the deep ocean; however, her new feet were sprouting and her hopes were sinking.

She stayed strong, hopeful and pleasant as the pink sunset filled the sky and her mermaid life began to fade.

Remele Sparks took shelter over night in a dark cave, watching for unruly surfers or news crews that might find her. She welcomed us to stay and keep her company until she could be safe either on land or in the sea.

The next morning was miraculous. Her many calls for help were finally heard. A merman, who had once been beached in the same spot, rescued her. He promised us he would take good care of her as he taught her about the living on the land. We keep in touch with them to this day & they have lived Happily Ever After.

Stacey, Chris & The Stormy Seattle Sunset

This summer in WA was phenomenal; 0 days of rain in July and up until this wonderful August day we didn’t have a hint of rain. Of course we almost had a mild panic attack when mother nature decided to have a crazy storm drop in and burst our summer bubble the day of this photoshoot. The morning was overcast and it even was sprinkling while Magnificent Marjani was working her magic with Stacey’s hair and make-up for their wedding bridal portraits.

We drove to Alki Beach and as we turned the bend a glorious light started peeking from the clouds. No doubt our luck was changing by the minute. All our packed umbrellas were left in the car as we headed to the dock and beach to hopefully get a few warm shots.

We posed them just in time to get a shot with some light on the city between clouds but then the most vibrant colors started showing toward the west. It started with an orange gold, we were giddy to see any color and this would have been perfect for us, but then it kept changing…

It was like a perfect painting, every color of the rainbow was bursting through the clouds – we were in awe as we watched the sky change like a kaleidoscope before our eyes.

Chris & Stacey provided our assistant for the day…their lovely daughter Lily. She thought she would get out of photos since she didn’t dress up…well we surprised her I suppose.

As the sun went away, downtown Seattle’s skyline began to glow as we took a couple night photos. Don’t be fooled though, the colorful sky didn’t provide much warmth.downtown night wedding photos in Alki Seattle photography www.SomeLikeItShotPhotography.com

Stacey also moved to WA from San Diego and I think we all agree. WE LOVE SEATTLE! Even when it tricks us into thinking weather will be one way and changes last minute to something else. As we like to say … our weather is a bit Bi-Polar so if you don’t like what you see just wait a few minutes.

Erin called us about senior portraits just a couple weeks ago, hoping it wasn’t too late, wanting photos that had Seattle in them. We met her and discussed the things she loves; she’s a Seattle coffee connoisseur and overall she just enjoys hanging out enjoying life. Well, for Seattle photos and a cute cafe we figured we would head to West Seattle first.

Holiday Photos At Orfila Winery

family with dogs and wine barrelsSome Like It Shot had the pleasure of shooting Cinda and Jeff with their faithful labrador companions, Juneau and Ella, at the Orfila Vineyards and Winery.  Inside the winery, barrels were stacked from floor to sealing, one on top of the next.  Outside, the vineyards were repetitious, stretching over the rolling hills.  In the East, an early moon sat high in a crystal blue sky.

In the West, an orange sunburst as it began to set.

Alisha learned that it was Cinda’s Birthday, so we celebrated with wine tasting.  Some people might wonder how old the birthday girl is, we’ll never know…because a lady never tells.
